But this is different! Kinda...
One of my watchers (I won't single them out!) asked me if I was doing commissions, and if I were, that they'd like me to draw something for them.
It sounded like a simple enough request, but I was like...wait...they wanna commission
me?! I thought they were crazy or confused but apparently it's true ; u ;
But here's the thing that I need help with;;;
1) Not sure if I should even start doing commissions in the first place (I'm still an amateur artist at best- and I have a long list of requests;;; )
2) If I did, I wouldn't know what kind of payment options to use. (I know a lot of people use paypal, but I have no idea how that works and I lack money to make it work- I could just go with concealed cash/money order but I'm nervous about giving out my address. Then there's these "point commissions" I've heard so much about. My little sister does commissions on Gaia Online but not everyone on dA has a Gaia account so that's probably not an option;;; )
3) I have no idea how to price things fairly.So yeah...I mean if I end up backing down from the commission I'll probably still do it for free, but I just wanted to know what you guys think
(I feel like some of you are probably rolling around laughing at the idea of anyone actually wanting a commission from ME XD;;; )
Please help, I needs opinions of smart people like you ; w ;

Well, depends on the artist and the amount and stuff...If you do Paypal/IRL commissions as well, I'd do a direct exchange rate (aka if you charge $5 for a chibi [like alot of artists], that'd translate to 400 points, which sounds like a lot, to someone who doesn't buy points with money. Though I suppose it's harder depending on if you get buyers from other countries xD) I've gotten really good prices, like 7 points from good artists. Just varies I guess xD; There are a few I wanna commission again but I'm still not done ordering from other people :'D

Though me, personally, I try not to spend more than 200 points to one person/for one commission (also, some of the people that charge higher take forever xD; :'D Like a couple months is reasonable for a commissioner I guess, some people take like 2 weeks, other people get done within 48 hours lol), and I usually only buy like one person in a picture, not like a couple/group pic. xD; (I get my points from random donations, llama tradings, and a rare commission now and again) Some artists charge extra (well, only like 5-10 more points) for certain details (like backgrounds and whatever)
And there's lots of point commission groups you could join. You could totally sell adoptables too xD; I'd totally pay you real money too if we lived in the same neighborhood, most of my money is in change form 'cause I never went to a coin star. You could buy like half an ice cream truck's worth of ice cream lol, I would totally accept payment in ice cream if someone offered xD;
Oh and for paypay you need a bank account or something. And something about sending money with email or whatever...I think there's a tutorial on DA for it, actually (DA has tutorials for EVERYTHING xD; :'D) But eh.

That's true...I think you need like a regular bank account to use paypal right? So I'd have to keep money on both the bank account and the paypal account...man I wish I wasn't so ghetto~
If it were a colored image though...hmm..I guess it would depend..on like chibi's, head shots, full bodied, with or without backgrounds, and whether they'd be sketches, line art or colored = w ='
You can always check the other people's commision prices.

As for payment, I did points because it was a bit simpler for me

Yeah, I think pricing is probably the hardest part; I've seen a ton of different price ranges, from the wicked-expensive stuff to people that barely charge anything...=3=
